Birds Foot Trefoil
Mats of flowers bursting of bright yellow along the roadsides, and on the hills of overpasses, that's Bird's Foot Trefoil. It's in the same family as peas! They grow quickly and are planted in areas we hope to reduce soil erosion due to wind and water. However, most Departments of Transportation are beginning to plant more native prairie plants in areas that need erosion control, because their roots go far deeper and are a better anchor.
