Wintercreeper
These are the berries from an evergreen plant called Wintercreeper (euonymus). It is a non-native plant that was introduced to North America in the early 1900s from China. It can quickly grow into dense mats that choke out our native plants. Another way they spread, is when birds or mammals consume the seeds, and they pass through the animals. Because it is an attractive ground cover, many people have used it in landscaping. If you have it in your yard, and are thinking about transitioning to more native plants, American bittersweet would be a good alternative. Remember to 'like' and 'share' the love of nature!
