Red Spotted Purple

Today I had a special visitor in the garden. I am hoping that because I have a couple of cherry trees, and a new pussy willow, that I will see many more of this beautiful butterfly in the future. Learning about what a butterfly needs at all stages of its' life is important when you want to attract them. This is a Red Spotted Purple. It is a polytypic butterfly, meaning that there are many different variants. Depending on where you live, they can look slightly different.
